Combustion
Fire is a chemical reaction known as combustion, where a substance reacts rapidly with oxygen, releasing heat and light. The Quran references fire originating from green trees, highlighting the presence of combustible materials in vegetation. Through photosynthesis, green plants convert sunlight into chemical energy, storing it as carbohydrates. When these materials are ignited, they undergo combustion, releasing the stored energy as fire. This illustrates the transformation of solar energy into chemical energy and then into thermal energy, a fundamental concept in chemistry.
